ROV Egypt Competition

ROV in a pool

The ROV Egypt Competition is one of regional ROV competitions coordinated by the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center. The MATE Center uses underwater robots – also known as remotely operated vehicles or ROVs – to teach science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and prepare students for technical careers.

In the ROV competition, founded by the MATE Center in 2002, student teams compete to design and build underwater robots that can achieve a simulated mission underwater in swimming pool. The ROV Egypt regional competition is organized to raise the awareness of the Egyptian students about the new technology related to the underwater technologies and ROV technology and to reinforce the collaboration between the working companies on underwater technologies and the Egyptian universities and schools. The regional competition has run annually in Egypt since 2012, co-organized by the MATE Center, Hadath for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT).

The winners from this regional competition are qualified to the international competition. It has two classes, Explorer for university students and Ranger for school students.
